| Descriptive notes: PARTON is a township, in the parish of Moresby, situated on the coast about 1 mile from Whitehaven, and well adapted for bathing. A free school was endowed here by the late Mr Williamson. Lord Lonsdale has lately sunk a pit in this township, which is likely much to increase the population. At LOUCA, adjoining to Parton, is an extensive iron foundry, and a manufactory for locomotive and marine engines. The spirited proprietors of these and several other works (Messrs Tulk and Ley) launched, a short time back, an iron schooner- the first of the kind ever constructed in Cumberland. The Whitehaven Junction Railway passes here, and the Steam Navigation Company's vessels afford a cheap and convenient communication between this locality and Whitehaven. The population of Parton township is about 700.
